The Players Championship is considered the Fifth Major and the PGA Tour event with the bigger purse. It is played at TPC Sawgrass near the PGA Tour Headquarters in Pontevedra (FL). Although it will never be like The Masters, it is maybe the most fun event to watch live on the Course, specially the island green at 17th hole. The course is one of the best designed and maintained courses in the world.

When the Pete Dye Design opened to play in the early 80s, players said he was crazy because the Course was almost unplayable. But after some years and technology advances, today it is one of the Tour Players’ preferred courses.

The main difference between TPC Sawgrass and Augusta is that this course is public and can be played all year long. Where to fly?

TPC Sawgrass is an easy destination to reach, flying to Miami and connecting to Jacksonville, or even driving from Miami. You can even fly to Orlando and combine it with non-golf holidays.

Lodging Options

To be able to book TPC Sawgrass in advance, you have to stay at Sawgrass Marriott, a great 5 stars Hotel just by the Club. Being there, you can play no less than 6 great golf courses during your golf holiday.
If you wish to do our Florida PGA Courses, the best call is to stay some nights at Doral, then at PGA National, then make a a short stop at Innisbruk and end your trip at TPC - or continue to Buena Vista Resort to play Disney Magnolia.

Some of the best golf courses

Florida is the US State with most courses, although not all of them are top quality. The secret is to travel in late spring to be able to play all the public ones plus some of the private ones. It’s one of the best golf trips a golfer can dream of making with his friends.

Courses at Florida that host PGA Tour Events are:

TPC Sawgrass (Stadium Course): the most famous one and with the most exciting par 3 on Tour.

The Champion at PGA National: re designed by Nicklaus, it hosted Ryder Cup and PGA Championship. The "Bear Trap" (Holes 15-16-17 par 3-4-3) is one of the toughest stretches in golf.

TPC Blue Monster at Doral: recently restored by Gil Hanse, the host of the WGC Cadillac Championship in March has showed to be one of the toughest stops of the Tour.

Bay Hill Club & Lodge en Orlando: masterpiece by The Great Arnie, host of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Although semi private, it can be played if you stay at the Lodge.

Copperhead (Innisbruk), Magnolia (Disney), Dye Valley (en TPC Sawgrass), North-South at Grand Cypress or Tiburon GC in Naples (host of Franklin Templeton Shootout) are other Tour courses than can be played during almost all months of the year.

Streamsong Resort, located 1 hour from Orlando and with its 2 new courses (Red & Blue) is called to be the “Bandon Dunes of the East”. Tom Doak and Core/Crenshaw have done some of the best work of their careers with these venues. This place is ideal to combine with courses in Orlando like Metrowest GC, Falcon's Fire GC, Magnolia and Orange County - Panther Lake.

Some other courses like Heron Bay (once host of the Honda Classic), Parkland (fantastic Greg Norman Design), TPC Eagle Trace (maintained at top level) are some of the other great options that can be included in a Florida Golf Trip.

The suggested trip

It would be very unfair to select only one itinerary as there are many great options: there are no less than 5 very good trips to do, not only to play golf but also to watch the best golfers on the best courses of the State.

Some of the recommended Golf Tours in Florida:

Play TPC Sawgrass: depending on the season, it can be done for around USD 1400, staying at World Golf of Home and playing TPC Stadium x 2, Dye Valley, Sawgrass CC and Marsh Landing – plus visiting the World Golf of Fame.
A good option is to attend The Players Championship and play some of the best courses around the area.

Play Doral Blue Monster and the Champion at PGA National: 3/4 nights at each resort playing each Tour course twice, plus extra rounds on the secondary venues. This can cost USD 1300 during low season.

Streamsong and Orlando: definitely a luxury option, to end the trip at the new Resort with 2 of the best courses of USA. We suggest 4 nights at Grand Cypress plus 3 rounds at Magnolia, North-South and Metrowest, then 3 nights at Streamsong and 27 holes on each course (Red & Blue). This program can cost USD 1500 during the lowest season.
