Myrtle is an all year destination

Myrtle Beach

Although Myrtle is an all year destination, the best time to go is March to late May. With many excellent golf courses, very good lodging options, some Shopping Malls, and – of course – the beach, make it a very recommendable option.

 Arriving to Myrtle

It has an Airport where you can fly from many US destinations like Newark NJ) or Atlanta (GA). If the trip is combined with Hilton Head or Kiawah, it is an easy drive from these two destinations.
The area is the most prolific Golf Destination in US, not only due to the amount of courses, but because of the variety of them due to the different designers that worked there, like Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Robert Trent Jones Sr., Rees Jones and Dan Maples. You can find traditional parklands, Links Style Courses and those between the marshes. Prices are great and the Lodging options are widely different, in order to fulfill the requirements of every golfer.

 Lodging options

One of the aspects that make Myrtle a better golf destination than Orlando is lodging: you can find great Condos or Apartments like Barefoot or Marina Inn, and others by the Ocean. All of them are usually fully equipped (kitchen included).
This is our ranking for the best lodging options:
1) Marina Inn at Grande Dunes
2) Barefoot Resort Yacht Club Villas o North Tower Villas
3) Avista Resort
4) Cottages en Wachesaw Plantation (availability is scarce)
5) Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort
The other factor to consider about Lodging is location in relation with the selected courses, as the best ones are not always close to the accommodation selected. Marina Inn in Grande Dunes and Barefoot Resort are in the Centre. Avista Resort is a little bit far North, close to Tidewater and Surf Club. Wachesaw Plantation and Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort are south, closer to Caledonia, True Blue, Heritage, Wachesaw Plantation and TPC of Myrtle Beach. It is important to state that renting a Van is vital, as distances between courses and lodging are not small.

Golf

It is very important to consider the driving distances when you select the courses to paly. Golf in Myrtle is maybe of the highest quality when it comes to Public Courses: there are no less than 20 great courses that you would definitely want to play more than once.

This is the Redan Ranking of destinations (course and designer):

1) Dunes Golf & Beach Club – Robert Trent Jones, Sr.

2) Caledonia Golf & Fish Club – Mike Strantz

3) Tidewater Golf Club – Rees Jones & Ken Tomlinson

4) Heritage Club – Dan Maples

5) Wachesaw Plantation Club – Tom Fazio

6) Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort – Tom Fazio

7) Dye Club at Barefoot Resort – Pete Dye

8) Grande Dunes Resort Course – Roger Rulewich

9) River’s Edge Golf Club – Arnold Palmer

10) Tiger’s Eye Golf Links – Tim Cate

Glen Dornoch (Clyde Johnston), Thistle (Tim Cate) y TPC Myrtle Beach (Tom Fazio & Lanny Watkins) are three of the most requested venues. And we have some “Hidden Gems” like: Bald Head Island Golf Club (George Cobb & Tim Cate) and Cape Fear National Golf Club (Tim Cate), but these two are not close to any of the good lodging options.
These other courses are also noteworthy: Surf Golf & Beach Club (George Cobb), Leopard’s Chase Golf Club (Tim Cate), Oyster Bay Golf Links (Dan Maples), Love Course at Barefoot Resort (Davis Love III) and True Blue Plantation (Mike Strantz).

Trip planning

Myrtle Beach is a very easy destination; you don’t need as much anticipation as Scotland or The Masters. Groups of four are ideal in order to make it cheaper. A couple of weeks are enough to book your trip and secure good tee times and lodging.
It is an almost golf exclusively destination, so you can do an intense 7 nights and 7 rounds trip, selecting golf courses close to the lodging options. We suggest avoiding summer, as it can be quite hot and humid, with thunderstorms in the afternoon.

The facts you need to know

A 6 nights and 4 rounds golf trip can cost only USD 800 per person. It is a trip you can easily book. What is Redan’s advantage? We know the spots, we’ve been there several times, sent many groups and can guarantee the best available option on the market for your golf trip.
